Fresher's Events
Free Cream Teas - International WeekDuring the first week of university the Chaplaincy puts on free cream teas. This is particularly aimed at international students but everyone is welcome, see support for new students for more details. Free Meals For New Students - Fresher's Week
The Chaplaincy offers a free meal to all new students. This is usually a very popular event and last fresher's' week the queues stretched way down Sherwell Lane, see support for new students for more details.
Fish 'n' Chip Night We planning to have a Fish and Chip Night (or the veggie equivalent) in september see support for new students for more details. Beer And Pasty Night We planning to have a Beer and Pasty night (will be alternatives to beer) in september see support for new students for more details. Open House NightChrist The King will be opening it doors to students for a chance to talk or watch a movie and possible munch on some tasty snacks provided. Curry Night
CATHSOC member will be going out to grab a curry at the local weatherspoons(other foods avaiable if you don't like curries) on the 4th October. A great chance for all of us to meet up. This will be the first of of a our social nights out. . See support for new students for more details.
One Off Events
University Carol ServiceLast Christmas about 250 students and staff crammed into St Matthias Church for a candlelit service of carols and readings.On Going EventsWalks Once a month the chaplaincy puts on a walk in the surrounding countryside. Popular venues include Dartmoor and the Coastal FootpathHunger LunchesTo show our support for the poor and needy of this world we put on a series of hunger lunches. Each time we invite a guest speaker from an organization that is working on the front line to come and give a presentation on their work. We ask people to forego their normal lunch and make do with a bowl of rice to remind us that not everyone is as fortunate as we are.Bible StudyWe try and run bible study every year. Understanding the Catholic FaithMeeting on Wednesdays at 6.15 in the University Chaplaincy. A course exploring the Christian faith through the catechism.BBQ'SWeather permitting CATHSOC like nothing better than to dig out the barbie and throw a BBQ. These are definitely not to be missed.
Free Meal Every SundayAfter mass every sunday we provide a free meal and afterwards a group of us normally drift off to the pub for a drink.
Meditation
There will be Christian meditation every other week in the University Chaplaincy, dates are yet to be confirmed.
Taize Prayer There will be Taize prayer every other week in the University chaplaincy, date are yet to be confirmed.
